Safe Ride: In-Vehicle Assistive Technology Innovation

In June 2024, Freedom Solutions launched a groundbreaking innovation project based on our Unique Solutions process.

The goal of the project is to create multiple Assistive Technology designs, directly addressing safety concerns arising from road users who live with disabilities.

The opportunity is to deliver on the right to safe transport for all by developing products and solutions that respond effectively to buckle release and associated challenges.

Our volunteers, supported by staff and Industry Partners will work to develop designs that consider the safe system approach, universal design principles; and reducing or eliminating restrictive practices.

You can join this project in two ways:
1. Signing on a technical or supporting project volunteer
2. Sharing your lived experience of road safety challenges via registering interest in an in-person workshop or email [email protected] to discuss other opportunities.

As a volunteer

A senior man works diligently at a workbench in a workshop. He wears a Freedom Solutions Australia polo shirt and safety glasses, focusing intently on a piece of equipment held in a bright orange vice. The workshop background is organised with tools and materials neatly arranged, reflecting a professional and efficient workspace. The image conveys dedication and skilled craftsmanship, highlighting the technical expertise of the team at Freedom Solutions Australia.

Are you interested in contributing your skills and knowledge to developing innovative solutions for safe travels? We’re welcoming volunteers from all areas!

Via a survey

A person seated at a table or desk uses a laptop to complete an online survey. The screen displays a survey form with multiple-choice questions and rating scales. The individual is viewed from behind, focusing on the task at hand, indicating active participation in providing feedback or data. The setting appears to be a home or casual environment, suggesting convenience and accessibility for completing the survey.

Have you experienced safety challenges in a vehicle as a carer, health professional or as an individual with disability? Please share your experience with us!

In a workshop

A young boy with a bright smile sits in a specialised wheelchair, holding hands with a woman kneeling beside him. The woman, possibly a caregiver or therapist, looks at him with a warm and supportive expression. The background is softly blurred, featuring colourful toys and a well-lit room, indicating a positive and engaging environment. The image radiates joy, connection, and the supportive care provided to children with disabilities

Have you ever experienced the challenge of a child escaping their seatbelt while you were driving? Register your interest in a co-design workshop.
